Bees nesting in human colonies isn’t uncommon as they prefer to construct their hives in cavities and tree hollows. Spotting a beehive can be scary in anticipation of painful bee stings, but getting rid of bees and beehives is not an impossible task. In fact, there are several ways by which you can eradicate their colonies from your premises.

How to Get Rid of Bees from Your Home

Bees are diurnal in nature which means they are active in the daytime. So, the best time to deal with them, and to remove their hives is at night. If the beehives are exposed then dealing with them would be easy, but professional help would be required to remove nests which are inside walls.

Spray the exposed hive with pesticides after dusk, but when dealing with the bees’ colony always put on bulky protective clothing to avoid any mishap. Observe the hive the next morning, and look out for any bee activity. If they’re active, and not completely dead, then spray the pesticide again.

Once you are sure that all bees are dead it’s time to remove the hive. This will prevent wax and honey to damage your walls, and will less likely invite bees in the future.

Eradicating Ground Bees

Ground bees are one of the yellow jackets’ species, and they are quite aggressive in nature. If they get agitated during the extermination process they may attack. Therefore it’s essential to dress protectively by putting on gloves and masks and treat them at night.

Specific chemical sprays are available on the market. Look for ones manufactured specifically for ground bees. When spraying chemicals, try to spray the entrance points of the beehive. This is the best way to reach the nesting area.

Few ground bees may survive a chemical spray, but instead of living in the poisoned hive they will relocate their nest.

Never ever try to kill ground bees by using some generic chemical or gasoline. It’s not only dangerous to human health, but it will poison the ground and damage plants and animals.

How to Get Rid of Bees from Your Car

Usually, wasps colonize attics and cars, but other bees can do so as well. Removing them from such closed spaces is a very complicated and difficult task. Wearing bulky protective gear is very important in this case, and you should work on extermination at night. Bee removal sprays helpful, but you’ll have to spray a couple of times for complete removal.

Never try to run the motor or drive the car thinking this will eliminate the colony. This will only agitate bees and compel them to attack.

Getting rid of bee colonies is not enough; you have to wipe out their hives too. It’s vital to get rid of dead larvae inside the hive to keep new bee colonies away and prevent them from inhabiting the abandoned hive again.

Wasp nests are more dangerous to get rid of compared to beehives. With either one always wear protective gear to avoid any survivor’s surprise attack.

After the colony is dead, knock the beehive down with the help of a stick. Make sure that you remove the wax hives from the walls by opening a hole in the walls, and breaking and removing the comb apart. It’s crucial to prevent wax and honey from melting and damaging the walls.

In the case of ground bees simply caulk the hive’s entrance with dirt to prevent outside bees from inhabiting it. If the hives are in walls then the best way to remove the bee corpses is by vacuuming them out. Seal the openings in the walls to avert bees from building hives there.

Get Rid of Bees Using Natural Remedies

If you aren’t comfortable with using chemicals then another solution for how to get rid of bees is to use some natural remedies.

  • Natural bee lure

Bees tend to live close to food sources, and even relocate their nests for it. Lure them away from your home by using their favorite sweet food. Put chunks of ripe mangoes or pears 15-20 feet away from their hive. Keep on doing this for several days by moving the bait a few feet farther every time. This will force bees to relocate their nest, and start living close to the bait.

  • Natural repellents

Bees despise pungent smells, and therefore you can repel them from your premises by sprinkling some garlic powder. Put the powder in the places most visited by bees, and they’ll avoid the areas because of the smell. Besides the smell garlic powder is lethal for bees, and direct application may kill them.

Burn citronella candles will keep bees away from your home, and they’re also not harmful to bees. You can also force bees to relocate their nests by burning these candles near their hives.

  • Natural pesticides

Diatomaceous earth is an organic pesticide which is very effective against several pests. When they come in contact with it or consume it the ground diatom shells present in this pesticide tear them from inside. It’s better to use food-grade diatomaceous earth which is safe to apply around kids and pests.

You can also make a natural bee-killer spray. For this take a quart of water and add one teaspoon of vinegar and dish soap to it. Spray the mixture on bees, this will suffocate them to death and will prevent them from flying away, but you need to put on protective gear as this mixture should be directly sprayed on bees for effective removal.

If in any situation you are not sure about the extermination plan then contacting a professional pest control expert will be the best and safest option for you.
